connect W98-W2K w/ crossover cable

I connected 2 machines with a crossover cable. computer1 W2K & computer2 W98. I can see comp2 in comp1 but not able to open any shares. I can see comp1 in comp2 but requires a password to get access to comp1 (don’t know what password it is) also incomp2 when trying to access the comp2 shares thru net-hood it does not show any. file sharing is enable in W98 & NIC shows no conflicts
W2K NIC no conflicts cable is well connected.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
