connecting a CDRW and CDrom

connected middle plug on ribbon connector from 2nd eide to CDRW (master)with the end plug on same ribbon to CDrom (slave), Audio lead has been connected to CDrom. Is this the correct way or should the audio cable go to CDRW I was told it would burnout laser??.
I have 2 hard drives on eide 1 master & slave. Final how do I convert MP3 to ordinary audio to listen on a cd audio system
