connecting a printer and a scanner

I have a Lexmark 2030 series and a Paperport One Touch scanner. I can use the printer if the scanner isn’t hook up, but when I hook the scanner up, I am not able to print anything. It is putting the print job on hold in the spool manager. I cannot get it to print from there either.
