I have a problem copying files from my portable to my desktop.
My portable is PIII machine running Win2K professional.
My desktop is a Athlon 600 machine running Win. 98 sec. edition.
The peer to peer connection is made through a UTP crossover cable.
The protocol used is TCP/IP with assigned IP addresses.
The connection works fine to view data on the desktop or to copy data from the desktop to the portable.
However, when I try to copy data from the portable to the desktop it fails.
Ireceive two different messages, sometimes I receive an error stating that the connection with the other machine is lost.
And sometimes I get a mesage saying the directory is to deep.
I already installed and switched to other protocols, Netbeui, IPX/SPX … but always with same result.
When I start to copy files the animated icons start flying but nothing happens.
After a while I receive one of the error message.
When I look on the desktop machine however there is an entry in the targetdirectory for the first file to copied.
When I try to open it a message tells me the file is locked by an other user.
I used the same connection with my old portable running Win NT4 without any problems !!
I hope somebody recognizes this situation and can help me with it !?
