Facts:
Windows 2000 Server, w/IIS 5.0, Front Page Server extensions are not installed. Web folders created with appropriate permissions.
Problems:
From Internet Explorer (5.x or greater)I try File | Open | http://www.something.edu/DirectoryName/MyNameselect OPEN AS WEB FOLDER. Fails at least 50 percent of the time, from at least 50 percent of the PC’s (both Windows 98 and Windows 2000) always using the same login. On the failures I either receive repeated prompts for user name/password and never connect or I receive a message that says “Web Folders could not be opened do you want to open them in Folder View”. If I select Yes to Folder View they do open in Folder View. I’ve tried repeated tests on the same PC’s with the same login, sometimes I am able to access web folders sometimes I can not. Does not seem to be a client issue as sometimes it does work, does not seem to be a server issue as some PC’s are able to open Web Folders consistently. We have tried capturing packetswith a sniffer and nothing unusual has been recorded on the unsuccessful attempts.
