Considering dropping cable for satellite

by charliespencer . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I’m considering dropping cable television service for a satellite service because of Time-Warner’s prices. I don’t care about premium movie services, pay-per-view events, sports packages, on-demand services, or anything outside one of the 150- or 200-channel packages. I’d like one HD / DVR receiver and a second “plain” receiver for the older TV in the den.

I’ve only got a limited number of questions so far, and I’m looking for suggestions as to what I need to look out for. Here’s what I have so far:

* Do I need to connect the receiver to a phone line? Why?

* Can I use the existing cable television wiring or is rewiring / additional wiring required?

* Can I get my local broadcast network channels?

What else do I need to ask the Dish Network and DirecTV sales reps?
