conversion for Sony SR1-AVCHD camcorder

I have a new Sony HDR-SR1 camcorder and would like to convert my high defination video which is the new MPEG-4 ACV/H.264 format to a format where the video can be played on standard VCR players and also to transfer to my Apple ipod. What software is needed and what is the cost?
