Corrupt page file

Every time I start Windows 2000 pro I get a message that says “Windows doesn’t have a page filr or the file is to small” When I check the settings I see a range that has bee set about 500 meg but the actual size says 20 meg. to get around this I have to increase the maximum size by 1 meg and then it seems ok until the next time I restart the Laptop, it starts all over again. I have searched Technet and can’t find a solution. Can anyone help?
