Could my hard disk be completely damaged?

I deleted two partitions on my hard disk & my system has refused to boot up since then. If it happens that i deleted the partition that contains the configuration for single drive RAID volume utility, does it mean that the hard disk is completely damaged? Or can i still format it using an external HDD enclosure before returning it to my system?
