D-Link Wireless Access Points….

by peter bate . Updated 25 years, 3 months ago

Hi there,

We bought a couple of D-Link DWL-650 PC-Card wireless LAN cards and an D-Link DWL-1000AP access point.

We managed to get the wireless card working in a Windows 2000 Pro PC and plugged in the access point on our lan. The DHCP serverlooked after the access point and we assigned a static IP to the wireless LAN card.

There is a utility that came with the cards to detect wireless signal strength and quality along with network traffic.

We have a good signal strength and good quality, but no network activity. Windows 2k pro does not report an unplugged network cable.

The Access point has very little configuration options – ie just the channel number, security enqcryption and DNS/IP’s.

We can ping the access point on the cable side, but can not ping the connected wireless LAN adapter.

Even if we reset the access point and use default settings, there is still no network action!!

Has anyone had experience with these cards and access points?? Documentation on how this thing works is next to nothing. If you know what is going on, drop a note.

Thanks,

Peter
