dam hp sj 5200c’s

We have a scanjet 5200c which up until recently was working just fine. But now for some unknown reason it wont work. The problem is that after installing it will work only until you log off or shut down. After that it thinks the scanner is in usewhen its not????????
Dam problem is happening to another hp scanner we have now. Can anyone help!
