Darn USB ports

Hi,
I have a problem with my USB ports. For some reason they won’t read thumbdrives. They recognize that they are there and installed but they will not autoplay and they don’t appear in “my computer”. My other USB devices work, such as a stereo that goes through USB, and they don’t seem to have any problems working.
What the crap is wrong, i have no idea.
Please Help.
