Data Invalid on Install

I have a Win2k pro system. When I do a Windows update (from Windows Update site) on drivers, it always fails and just tells me to try again.

When I tried to install a PCI modem or a PCI usb card the system finds the item. When it starts the “Upgrade Device Driver” applet, it asks where the driver is and always gives a “An Error Occurred During the installation of the Device. The Data is invalid”

I tried using different items in different slots and ran Norton Systemworks to fix problems.

Still the same thing, updated to service pack 3 and still have the same problem.

Any ideas?
