I just bought an ATI “TV Wonder VE” TV tuner/capture PCI card. I followed the directions for installing it in WinXP Home. After telling it to continue anyway after the “unsigned driver” warning, the install failed with a “The data is invalid” error. ATI’s website said this:
Under certain conditions, you may experience an error stating “Data is Invalid” when attempting to install drivers.
This issue is not ATI specific. This error can also occur when configuring drivers for a variety ofhardware devices such as SCSI cards, network cards, Modems, Sound Cards, or other peripherals.
This symptom appears to occur when there has been a recent hardware configuration change within Windows XP.
This error is believed to be due to an issue occurring when hardware enumeration takes place by the operating system. The cause of the error is unknown.
Although no known solution has been documented, customers have noted that removing and reinstalling the operating system corrects this issue.
Does anybody have any experience with this? I will return the card before I’ll remove and reinstall the OS! Is there another solution?
