DCHP and Active Directory

We had a consultant come in to look over our Active Directory migration. One of the items he said that Active Directory requires DHCP. WE called Microsoft and they said it does not. That it’s just makes administrating easier. My view follows Microft. Does anyone know the benifits of have setting up DHCP with Active directory? Or the disadvantages of not setting one up?
