Ok…I have been asked to do away with WINS and use DDNS only. I’m not sure this is possible with the existing forest/domain structure.
We have a root domain of mydomain.com with a DDNS server. We then have 2 subdomains corp1.mydomain.com and corp2.mydomain.com sperated by a WAN. The corp1 uses the root DDNS and the corp2 uses DDNS on it’s own DC level.
I shutdown WINS and now we are having all sorts of cross domain resolution problems. I can’t see the corp1 domain in the computer browserand we have to fully qualify DNS names to map drives…can’t use UNC naming.
I have been told that you break DDNS if you implement with the about subdomain method. I have also been told and read that for multi-domain structure, you can’t totally get away from WINS.
I know that was a mouth full, but does anyone have any experience with this or input?
Thanks
