Dell Dimension 1100

Machine had to be rebuilt. Now does not recognize CD player. C drive and Network all it sees. No D drive. Player ok as a replacement not recognized either. Unloaded 82801 Ultra ATA Storage Controllers. XP found correctly and installed, but still no D drive. Replaced ribbon cable, reseated connections. All zippo.
Bios states not installed but cannot find.
Thoughts..suggestions??
