Dell Inspiron 1100 – Hard Disk Drives

All of a sudden my laptop’s hard drive is not functional. When I start the computer I get this error message stating that the HD does not exist. I run the diagnostics to repair the HD to no avail. Do I have to replace the hard drive? Is there another way to get around this?
