Denial of service attacks

Hello there!

I want to know more ( a lot ) about the follwoing

1) Ping of death
2) TCP SYN attack
3) Denial of service attacks (DOS)

I want to know how these attack are carried out and how they can be defended against.

I want to implement some of the defences.

Plz find some resources that will help me
