Desktop slow to update in Win98SE

Sometimes, my desktop is slow to update in Win98SE. Let me explain. Somtimes when I close an open window, the program closes, but leaves an “impression” (for lack of a better word) on the desktop. In other words, I can still see the window that WAS open, but nothing on the desktop will respond to clicks. I can open other programs from the taskbar, and when they are closed, they too will leave impressions. After a few seconds, the screen finally updates. This usually continues until I reboot.I have an Intel i815 chipset on an Intel desktop board. COuld this be a memory managment issue since the integrated video shares the RAM with the system?
