I have two Dell Powervault servers with Windows 2000 Advanced Server that replicate files, from one to the other using DFS. All day long, the File Replication Service stops and starts with error messages saying that FRS failed a consistency check or FRS is in an error state. I’ve applied SP3 and hot fixes Q321557, Q322141 and Q327376. For some folders, Full security permissions have been given to Domain Admins, Self, Interactive, and System. The everyone group has read and write permissions. When it runs, the replication works OK, just not very long.
It seems replication works until I add a folder with the above permissions. If these folders are removed from DFS, everything works fine. One source of the problem may be that these troublesome folders are the users home directories, with a drive letter mapping.
How can I replicate these folders without changing the NTFS permissions to Full for Everyone? What could I be doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
