dhcp

I’m running XP Pro on a new compac desktop 36GHD,256MB,2.36 Processor.
I’m not able to connect to my network using dhcp.
We have internal addresses 10.0.1.1 -10.0.1.100.
When I do a ipconfig it gives me 63.20.35.66.
I have everything on auto in the tcp/ip settings.
It seems DHCP is not working. How can I fix this problem.
