I have an XP Pro box that connects from a remote site to our email server via dial up connection. We had a power failure on the client side last week while the PC was powered on and connected to the mail server and now the PC cannot resolve the mailserver name. The dial up connection still works fine.
I can ping the mail server’s IP address but NOT the name, and can also ping the IP AND name of our file and FTP servers. I can also map network drives on the file server using either the IP address OR the server name, so the issue is isolated to the mail server connection on the client end. I have tested the ping function form another PC’s dial up connection, and it works just fine.
It appears that something is either stuck in the registry, or corrupted in the email application (Outlook 2000), but I can’t figure out any way to correct the problem. Any suggestions?
