I have a primary computer with dial-up internet access. I set up a second PC running Person Web Server software so I can beta test my web site designs before publishing them live on the web. The PCs are connected by standard 10 Base T nics and a little hub. On my primary PC, when I open Internet Explorer and type in the name of my host machine, I expect for it to show me the contents on my web server, but instead it always goes directly to dial up the internet before even checking my local LAN for the info I requested. I’ve tried adding my server first in line to my DNS table and it ALWAYS dials the internet before looking at my server. It also wont recognize my server by name but only by the IP address I assigned it. What settings am I missing to have ALL TCP/IP requests look at my server BEFORE dialing my ISP?? One of the reasons I even set this up was to be able to work and publish my Front Page webs to a server without being on-line, but my main PC demands I connect with my modem first. If I cancel the modem dial-up, it tells me it will work Off-Line and I cannot hit my server. I can’t even ping the server without the modem logging me into my ISP. Please help ease this headache! Thanks!
