Dial-up networking (Modem)

I installed Win98 SE on my Dell Latitude 500 mhz laptop with a 3 COM Megahertz 3CCM756 PCMCIA modem. After the OS was installed I was able to use the modem to dial out and browse the internet. I then took it to work and docked it in it’s docking station. Since then I have been unable to dial out. It seems that the modem is unable to complete the dial out process. I have tried every thing possible. Can someone please help me figure this out?
