dialup connection icon not in systray

I have pc with XP pro that does not have the icon for the dial up connection in the systray. I have checked in the connection properties and the “display notice when connected” is checked. I have checked the internet properties it is also turned on there. This is a problem since my user can not disconnect with out shutting down the system. Thanks
