Disc Detection issue

I just got a 250gb HDD, ran the diagnostic program, installed windows, ect. ect. the CD ROM drive was running absolutely fine with those 2 discs but now it refuses to acknowledge any CD inserted into it, I tried using the command prompt under Run and refreshed the window but the drive just refuses to read anything, suggestions?
