Disk Boot Failure After New HD Install

by olozbal . Updated 18 years, 11 months ago

Got a problem. I recently had my primary drive going bad, I got ahead of it and copied all the stuff off the old one, and also took the chance to reinstall XP to clean up the system.

So I switched the bad primary to become the slave, and the slave the primary. Been fine for a few weeks, now the bad one is finally trashed and clunking. No big deal since I have just old files on it. So I disconnect the old one completely and now the PC won’t boot. When I disconnect the slave, the computer doesn’t see either Hard Drive. It says I have neither on reboot. I tried switching the ribbon cables around in different configs but now I have no bootable PC. Keeps saying Disk Boot Failure.

Did I miss some part of windows on the old disk that somehow windows was finding and allowing me to boot? Now that the disk is trashed it doesn’t have what it needs? Or maybe a BIOS setup thing? Help!
