display problems

After you’ve checked the video card and find there’s nothing wrong with it, what would the next step or test be in order to restore your display on the monitor. Is this a common problem when using Windows 9x and 2000? Is this problem software or hardware related? The other part of the problem is that you find a lot of error messages. How do you deal with this? Please help! Are there any books or software that you can suggest.
