DNS server

In preparation for upgrade from NT Server 4.0 to Windos 2000 server, it is recommended that a DNS server be installed. Our LAN has ISDN internet connectivity, with a third party providing our DNs server. Do i need to configure DNS on the local LAN as well, and if so , what domain name should I use?
