Do you encourage clients to perform certain tasks If so , what?

I have clients that feel they should perform task such as windows updates, What task do you encourage user to perform short of defrag, anti virus updates I feel that they should leave win updates to a professional that can repair any problem that may arise. Also on average keeping all things equal “cpu, HD speed, RAM” would you say taht it takes about 30 mins to 1 hour to update & test a pc?
