Drive Clone – Acronis or Symantec?

We are trying to upgrade a system with small scsi drive to larger drive, either internal raid or external scsi raid.
We are planning to use either true image or ghost. Any cautions OR is it even workable.
Since there is a licensing issue-has parallel dongle, we are trying to be extremely cautious without incurring thousands expenses.
ANY EXPERIENCE /INPUT WILL BE APPRECIATED.
