Drivers Installed – Sound Card Inactive

On a PC running Window 95b with a 4Sound Winmodem (Soundcard and Modem) the drivers are installed, but when looking in the multimedia section they are inactive for an unknown reason. A person installed an old network card that seemed to cause the problem. The user removed the card but now has the above error message with no sound but the modem functions. Furthermore the soundcard will work in the DOS mode. I have deleted the Soundcard and other devices in the Device Manage and rebooted the System several times without success. It seems that the OS knows the sound card is installed but on the other hand does not know how to communicate with the sound card.
