DVD Burner

I just installed a DVD Recorder into my computer and when the computer boots; it takes a good few minutes to get all the way into windows. Even then everything just drags. The burner is the only device on the cable; and is set to master. It is detected in the bios properly and there are plenty of system resources. Any ideas???
