DVD Problems. Please assist!

Ok, I just a dvd burner for x-mas. Everything is working properly and installed correctly. I am able to burn files and folders to the dvd roms but when i put the dvd rom back in the drive to view its contents, a window pops up with nothing in it!
what the hell heppened? I know it burned correctly b/c i can burn movies and iso files without a problem. Its just whenever i make a data dvd rom it doesnt want to show what i have burned and says the disk is empty. please help anynone!
