DVD RW not detected even in bios!

I have not tried anything yet but am in need of ideas. I have a HP laptop model ZE4365US and suddenly one day the DVD drive dissappears from both the bios setup and of course also windows!
Running XP Home which should not matter since it is gone from BIOS set up also.
