dvd writer 740b will not write to dvd+/-R’s also will not recognise RW’s

when I try to burn anything with nero6 or dvd decryptor or anything else for that matter, iw will burn a little bit, but then come up wite either burn failed or i/o error, or other message, I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, updating the firmware, changing settings on the drive, and nothing seems to work.

the specs on the drive, say that it should read rw dvd’s but it wont even recognise them, says media not present, brand new rw’s

can you tell me if this problem can be fixed or do I have to replace the drive?
