EIDE Hard Drive

I’ve fitted IDE hard drives with very little problem,so I’ve some idea of what I’m doing.
I’ve now tried to fit a EIDE (45Gb) HD in a comp,which already has a IDE (4Gb)drive.
I’ve connected both drives together,using the ribbon cable,,but only theIDE(the original drive),works. Just connecting the EIDE by itself,,doesn’t do any good either. I’ve tried running the floppy disc that came with it,,but that won’t run.It flashes for about 2 seconds,then stops.

The system is,,400mhz,32Ram,and 4 Gb,in a AT case. I was told that both IDE and EIDE drives should be OK to work together,though I have my doubts. I wasn’t aware that Hard Drives needed a Floppy to get them going.
