Enable 2 NICs to function on the fly

There is a laptop with builtin Ethernet card and a PCMCIA token ring card. Need to work on have TCPIP to bind to both. The problem is when you bind ethernet then it becomes primary and vice versa. Tried to work with 2 hardware profiles, when I remove the token ring card in the ethernet profile then it removes it globally from the laptop and not from the profile which it should. Can anyone give some ideas please……
