enable partition,new scsi hard drive

I added a secondary compaq 18.2 scsi hard drive to my compaq proliant 800 for more space. icannot format the secondary drive(new drive). every time I try to format it I get a message to enable/volume partition. i am running a windows server 2000. how can I enable partition/volume to be able to format the hard drive.
I do appreciate any guidance to format the drive.
