Enable sound card in older games?

I am running Windows Me. Before upgrading, when I was running Win95, my sound card ran properly for all of my older DOS-based games (early 90’s games). However, after upgrading to Windows Me, the sound card simply does not play at all when I set my DOS games to play on sound blaster. (This is also the case with Windows 98, since I tried running the games on another computer I have running Win 98). I can still get Roland sound to work when running my DOS games, but it is not quite as good asthe sound blaster. Does anyone know why the sound blaster worked in Win95 but not Win98/Me and how I might be able to get it working again for playing games in DOS?
