Epson C80 HP Jet Direct WIN98???

by bruce . Updated 24 years ago

I can’t seem to get an Epson C-80 printer to work with a WIN98 client hung on a HP JetDirect 170X. Windows 2000 Server and PRO clients have no trouble printing thru the JetDirect, so I know that the JetDirect and Printer are OK.

I loaded Epson C-80 WIN98 Driver from CD, and I also tried newer? WIN98 driver from Epson Site, but any attempt to use or look at properties of Epson printer gets an immediate hang, with illegal operation error or blue screen.

Just so you know, in between trying the CD driver and the Web site driver, I took the time to delete every entry containing “EPSON” fro the registry and all files etc. etc. Different driver, same blue screen.

I spoke to Epson tech support who said they couldn’t help me because I wasn’t using an Epson Print Server.

BTW I have the port defined as a Standard TCP/IP Port. On the WIN2000 Server, I have the port defined as RAW, and in the advanced properties page, also RAW. (Those are defaults, I didn’t change them.)
