erratic errors

Hi everyone I have a friend who has an IBM running windows me
every time the system is in stanby mode it can’t come on. He can’t remember how he got to start back afterwards. When he changed the power setting it worked. 2 days after it shutdown again

Any suggestions will be appreciated
