Error Code 39 in Win XP

I have an error code 39 for corrupt device drivers for my CD-RoM, SB soundcard and USB driver, I have uninstalled, re-installed, updated drivers,physically removed and re-installed soundcard and cd-rom and still have the code 39. I can see the itemsin the device manager, but all have errors next to them. I have not installed any new hardware or software.
Please help
