Error ora-12154

After a seemingly successful install of Oracle 8.0.5 (to match the other clients on the network), I try to log into the SQL Plus interface to install the database. I get error message: “Error while trying to retrieve text for error ora-12154”. The connect string and username are the same as they are on all the other machines on the network. I have been unable to find any documentation on this error. Help!
