Error w/ no text and exclamation point

by jgilson . Updated 24 years, 9 months ago

OK, here’s a tough one! Running Windows 95, I have an intermittent problem when clicking on “Save As…” or “Print”. Instead of the “Save As…” or “Print” dialog box popping up, I get a small gray box that has no text in it, only an exclamation point and an “OK” button. If you click on the “OK” button the box goes away, but the correct dialog box never comes up, so you can’t save or print your document. This happens in several different Windows applications so it is not a problem with any oneprogram. I think that it is a Windows DLL problem, but I don’t know which one(s). I work for a school district IT dept. and it is happening on several computers at one campus! Any ideas? (Please…no recommendations about resource conflicts in Device Manager. Everything is “working properly” with “no conflicts” there. I posted this question on one board and that was the only responses I received!) Remember, the problem is intermittent…not a solid failure. If you exit the offending program and go right back into it the problem will go away. (However, this is not a good option if you can’t save a document that you just typed!) Thanks.
