Ethernet home networking .I need help!!

I just tried to establish a network between my PC running WindowsME and Laptop, running Windows 98, aiming to share folders,printer and internet connection. I set TCP/IP as default protocol in both computers, which seem to ping each other OK. However, only the PC can access the shared files of the laptop, whereas the laptop only identifies itself in the network neighbourhood. I tried to find the name of the PC from the laptop neighbourhood but it didnt work. How can I make it recognise my PC’s folders and internet connection?
