Exchange 2000 Instant Messenger Service

I have a question about the Instant Messenger service for Exchange 2000. I cant seem to get the thing to work. I configured it according to MS Knowledge base article Q266643. I keep getting 404 errors in my log, I know that the error 404 means that I am having problem authenticating. Does anyone have an idea on how to get this service to work?
