Exchange 2K Bad Mail Folder

Could someone comment on thi ssubject:

I have not being able to find any information about the purpose of the folders under exchserver:

\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\BadMail

what is the purpose of this folder, is there away to flush, or Clean it, what can be generating the files under this folder
