Exchange 5.5

Exchange Server is archiving all emails to IMCDATA/In/Archive and IMCDATA/Out/Archive.
How can I turn this off, or set so these messages will be deleted in a timely manner. We receive emails with large attachments and this can cause a lot of HDD space to wasted.
